What is an Indian Visa?
If you are a citizen of India, you can apply for an Indian visa online using the e-Visa application system. The visa processing time is about two weeks. You will need to provide some official documents, such as your passport photo, your birth certificate, and your education records. You will also need to pay the visa application fee. If you are traveling on a business trip or for tourism purposes, you must obtain a Business Visa. To apply for a Business Visa, you will need to provide documentation that proves that your visit is for business purposes only.
How to Apply for a Visa
If you are planning to visit India and stay for more than 180 days, you will need to apply for a visa. A visa application form called the ‘Form- I-Visa’ must be filled out and submitted with your passport application. The fee for a visa is $160 USD. You can apply online or by mail.
If you are travelling for tourism, business, study or medical reasons, you do not need a visa. However, if you are travelling on a tourist visa and intend to work in India, you will need to obtain an employment permit from the Indian embassy or consulate before arriving in India. To be eligible for a visa in India you must have a passport from a country that is on the list of countries whose citizens are allowed to visit India without a visa. If you are applying for an Indian visa at a consulate or embassy outside of India, you will need to provide your passport number and the name of your destination country. You will also need to provide documents that prove your identity (a driver’s license or government identification card is usually sufficient).
The application process for an Indian visa can be long and complicated. First you will need to gather all of the documentation required by your category (see the list above). Next you will need to submit this documentation with your application form. Finally you will need to wait for a response from the Indian consulate or embassy about whether or not they have approved your application.
